--- jupyter: description: 'Machine and vehicle examples with planex2d in Python: a toy plane and a model rocket in 3D, a Formula Student rear wing, double-wishbone suspension, an excavator arm, spur and planetary gears, a Wankel engine and a scroll compressor.' --- # Machine and vehicle examples - [Toy plane](toy-plane.md) - [Model rocket](rocket.md) - [Rear wing with DRS](rear-wing.md) - [Suspension kinematics](suspension-kinematics.md) - [Excavator arm](excavator-arm.md) - [Spur gears under load](spur-gears.md) - [Planetary gearbox](planetary-gearbox.md) - [Wankel engine](wankel-engine.md) - [Scroll compressor](scroll-compressor.md) These examples are machines and vehicles, from a toy plane and a model rocket to gears, engines and a compressor. Each starts from 2D sketches. The plane, the rocket and the rear wing become solids with OpenCASCADE, the spur gears are meshed by netgen and loaded in NGSolve, and the excavator arm moves as one constraint sketch. The Wankel engine and the scroll compressor run through their cycle, with the areas of their chambers and gas pockets measured along the way.

Spur gears under load
Spur gears under loadInvolute flanks as splines, meshed and loaded, with the von Mises stress.
Planetary gearbox
Planetary gearboxSun, three planets and ring gear, 15 mm wide, with backlash.
Wankel engine
Wankel engineEpitrochoid housing, a rotor that fits in every position, three chambers.
